I just purchased an iMac running on Mac OS X 10.8.2 Mountain Lion.
My attempt at installing both AC14 and AC16 came to the same prompt: -
'To open 'ArchiCAD Installer', you need a Java SE 6 runtime. Would you like to install one now?'.
I clicked on 'Install', and the system started searching for the software and seemed like it was going to install. Midway, it stopped and the prompt read: -
'The update 'Java for OS X 2012-006' can't be installed. The update could not be verified. It may have been corrupted during downloading. The update will be downloaded and checked again the next time that Software Update runs'.
I recently installed Oracle's Java 7 for OS X Mountain Lion (version 10.8.2) on my Mac computer. I was happy with this until I started doing Android development, which is throwing errors at me for using Java 7. As I recall, the first time you do something that needs Java the OS will ask if you want to install it, and version 6 is what you get. According to this page, typing java -version in the Terminal is enough to trigger the prompt. For the JDK (and not the runtime), you'll need to log into developer.apple.com, search for java, and download the Java for OS X 2012-006 Developer Package. Java for OS X 2015-001 installs the legacy Java 6 runtime for OS X 10.11 El Capitan, OS X 10.10 Yosemite, OS X 10.9 Mavericks, OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion, and OS X 10.7 Lion. This package is exclusively intended for support of legacy software and installs the same deprecated version of Java 6 included in the 2014-001 and 2013-005 releases. Download the file and install. It installs Java SE 6 update 11 (version 1.6.037). Dreamweaver fires right up! Safari quits complaining as well.
I tried many times, but it just won't install. Has anyone else experienced this and know how to get about it? Please help! Much appreciated.

The following are the system requirements for installing the JDK and the JRE on macOS:
Any Intel-based computer running macOS.
Administrator privileges.
You cannot install Java for a single user. Installing the JDK and JRE on macOS is performed on a systemwide basis for all users. Administrator privileges are required to install the JDK and JRE on macOS.
When you install the JDK, it also installs the JRE. However, the system will not replace the current JRE with a lower version.
To determine the current JRE version installed on your system, see Determining the JRE Version Installed on macOS. To install an earlier version of the JRE, you must first uninstall the current version. See Uninstalling the JRE on macOS.
When you install the JRE, you can install only one JRE on your system at a time. The system will not install a JRE that has an earlier version than the current version.
To determine the current JRE version installed on your system, see Determining the JRE Version Installed on macOS. To install an earlier version of the JRE, you must first uninstall the current version. See Uninstalling the JRE on macOS.
